Powerball
® is turning 20 in January!
To celebrate, the game is being redesigned to bring more value to its players. Jackpots will start at $40 million and the jackpot is being made easier to win. The overall odds of winning any prize are also easier, and there are more chances to win a prize of at least $1 million cash.
As of January 15, 2012, tickets in the game will cost $2 and the Power Play® multiplier feature will still be available for an extra $1 per play. For that extra $1, players have the chance to win $2 million cash for the match 5 prize and other larger non-jackpot prizes.
Players in the new $2 game will still choose their first five numbers from a pool of 59. But the group of numbers in the Powerball pool will shrink from 39 to 35, producing better overall odds of winning a prize in the game.
To prepare for these changes, the New Hampshire Lottery is “stepping down” via a draw countdown with the number of consecutive drawings that players can get on Powerball multi-draw tickets between November 9 and the last drawing of the $1 Powerball game on Saturday, January 14, 2012. Normally, players can buy tickets for up to 20 consecutive drawings at one time. However, during the count-down period, players will be able to purchase consecutive tickets – and the number of drawings available will decrease with each passing draw – through the January 14, 2012, drawing.
Then, beginning Sunday, January 15, players will once again be able to buy consecutive tickets for the full 20 drawings using multi-draw. Powerball Subscription holders will be hearing from us via a letter going out this week from our office.

New Hampshire Mega Millions® Megaplier®!
Multiply your lower-tier Mega Millions® winnings up to 4 times! To play, just choose the Megaplier® feature on your Mega Millions® play slip, or ask the clerk to "Megaply" your numbers. For each set of numbers played, it costs an additional $1 to Megaply those numbers.
Then, during each Mega Millions® drawing, a Megaply number between 2 to 4 is chosen. If you Megaply your numbers and win the $2 prize level up to the $250,000 prize level, your prize is then multiplied by the Megaply number selected - 2x, 3x, up to 4 times! For example, if you win $250,000 on Mega Millions® and the Megaplier® number drawn is 4, you would win $1,000,000 ($250,000 x 4) if you purchased the Megaplier® feature. Megaplier® numbers are 2, 3 and 4. The odds of a 2 being selected are 1:10.5, the odds of a 3 being selected are 1:3, and the odds of a 4 being selected are 1:1.75.

SIGN IT! IT’S YOURS! Player Protection Tips
Following the purchase of your lottery tickets, please sign the back of your tickets. The Lottery is committed to ensuring that all aspects of our games are conducted in a secure manner with fairness and integrity… click here for more information.
1. Sign the Back of Your Ticket Immediately After Purchasing.
A lottery ticket is a bearer instrument meaning that the Lottery must pay the holder (the one who “bears” it) of a winning ticket presented for payment. Signing the back of the ticket is the single most important thing you can do to help protect yourself from theft and demonstrate ownership of the ticket
2. Learn How to Play & Check your Tickets.
Find out the rules and winning combinations for the games you play in order to have an idea of how much you've won before presenting your tickets for cashing. Also, many lottery retailers have self service ticket checkers to use to find out prior to cashing in your ticket if it is a winner or not. The New Hampshire Lottery website has a great deal of information regarding the games we offer, how to win, etc.
3. Ask for a Validation Receipt When Having Your Ticket Cashed.
Prizes of $600 or less can be paid by Lottery retailers and following the validation of your ticket, a receipt is printed by the lottery terminal. If ever you are in doubt or question the amount of winnings, ask for a receipt confirming whether the ticket was a winner or the amount won. If you are told your ticket is not a winner, you may request its return. There is no reason for a retailer to keep a non-winning ticket. Most lottery retailers have a Customer Transaction Display unit which tells a player how much their tickets cost and/or when a ticket is validated, the amount of prize money won displays on the Customer Transaction Display unit.
Important Security Precautions
While the New Hampshire Lottery Commission® implements strong measures to provide secure and entertaining gaming products to its players, there are important security precautions that you should take when playing Lottery games to improve your gaming experience.
What you can do:
- Be knowledgeable of the game that you are playing.
- Sign your name on the back of the ticket.
- Scan your tickets yourself by using the ticket scanner in participating stores, or ask the clerk for a print out of winning numbers to compare to your ticket(s). Customers with internet access are invited to check the winning numbers on-line at http://www.nhlottery.org/
- When presenting your on-line ticket to a clerk for validation, read the consumer display graphics screen which indicates a winning ticket and prize or a non-winning ticket. Listen for the audible message that sounds "congratulations-you’re a winner" or "sorry-not a winner". The same is true for instant scratch tickets with the exception that there is no audible for non-winning tickets. The graphics screen will indicate a non-winning ticket.
- If your ticket is a non-winner, you may ask the clerk to print a receipt and return both the receipt and the ticket to you.
- If your ticket is a winning ticket, you may ask the clerk to show you the receipt as proof of the prize amount. The clerk retains winning tickets and cash receipts for record keeping.
- Remember that single prizes of $599.00 or greater, must be claimed at New Hampshire Lottery headquarters located at 14 Integra Drive in Concord, New Hampshire.
- Please play responsibly.
Sincerely,
Leonard Mannino
